You see, in politics the unstated is always heavier than the stated.
Last Saturday, the stated fact was that Madam Justina Azuka was on the ballot gunning to be a Legislator, with sympathy as her only major qualification. The “kindhearted” Peter, rich in compassion came to make her dream come true. After all, she is a widow who needs political power to take care of her young children — this way she will move from consumption to production and bring 489million Onitsha people out of poverty.
However, the unstated fact is that Peter Obi has not lost his dream of becoming Anambra’s diminutive political Jagaban — the only one who would decide who gets what from his Onitsha bungalow — such a modest man whose buiness is to care for the poor. He doesn’t seek for much.
Ndi Anambra, with utmost disdain for godfatherism, heard the unstated more than the subterfuge of “nke nwuru anwu”. Peter had his eyes on his selfish ambition more than the dignity of a dead man or the decorum of his late widow.
Azuka Justina did not lose this election. Peter was simply rejected by Ndi Anambra who have continued to remind him since 2017 that “godfatherism is gone!”
Trust Peter, he will come back again to peddle his over inflated sense of self worth.
