A 37-year old house help, Elisha Henry has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing his employer’s jewelries valued at N70,650,000.
A police source alleged that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Maroko Divisional, Lekki, SP Isah Abdulmajid ordered his men to arrest the accused following a complaint by one Chinyere Amachinwa, owner of the jewelry.
The accused from Cross River State was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos, on a one count charge of felony to wit, stealing.
Police Counsel, Cyriacus Osuji informed the count in charge No L/75/2018 that the accused committed the offence on 9 October, 2018 at 4b, plot 17, Awulu Ekpega Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
Osuaji told the court that the complainant reported to the police that she left her house help at home for work, but that before she returned, her maid used a duplicate key to gain entry into her room to steal her box of jewelries valued at N70,6680,000 and escaped.
Osuji said that the accused was eventually arrested in Cross River State and brought back to Lagos.
He said that the offence, the accused committed was punishable under section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State,2015.
The accused, pleaded not quality to the crime in the open court and Magistrate M.O Ope Agbe granted him bail in the sum of N20 million with two sureties in like sum.
Agbe adjourned the case till 26 November, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at Ikoyi prison, Lagos till he perfected the bail conditions.
