A woman, Mrs. Modupe Dada, may have engaged the services of a 19-year old girl, Miss Akapo Temitope, to assist her in domestic chores in Lagos unknown to her that she had brought the teenager to cause her serious pain and heartbreak.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the house maid, Temitope, reportedly arranged with robbers and stole her life savings in gold jewelries worth over $100,000 USD and escaped. The equivalent of it in Naira amounted to about N35m.
The incident happened at Adeniyi Jones in Ikeja area of Lagos where Mrs. Dada resides.
It was gathered that the house maid planned the act when her madam was not around, gained access into where they were kept and escaped with them.
However, when her madam, Mrs. Dada, went where the jewelries were kept and discovered what happened, she broke down in tears and regrets.
She reported the matter to the police and the operatives of the Federal State Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS, moved into action. They trailed, arrested Temitope and detained her at the Police Command, Lagos.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that she arranged with some people to rob her madam and mentioned the other accomplices who were said to be at large. But the items were said to have been sold and the money shared among the gang as the police were unable to recover the stolen items.
Temitope was charged before the Ogba chief Magistrates court for conspiracy and stealing.
She pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Inspector Christopher John, did not oppose her being granted bail.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Peter Nwaka, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 25th September, 2018.
It was not certain if Mrs. Dada will ever engage the services of any house help in her life again after the ugly incident.
