A 19-year old man, Emmanuel Bassey, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly putting fingers into a 5-year old girl’s private part in order to satisfy his sexual desire.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Crescent Street, Iju, Ishaga area of Lagos State, where they reside.
The suspect was alleged to have lured the girl in the afternoon when their neighbours were not around, removed her pant and inserted his fingers into her private part.
Having satisfied himself, he allowed her to go not knowing that the girl will revealed what he did to her. The girl told her parents what happened and the matter was reported to the Police in the area. He was arrested and then transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over the act.
During interrogation, the suspect told the Police that he did not penetrate her but only inserted his fingers into her private part.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for sexual penetration.
When he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea following a motion by the prosecutor, Supol Bisi Ogunleye, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, ordered his remand in correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, without an option of bail and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 23rd February, 2022, for the report of the DPP to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
