A 20-year old man, Moses Badmus, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly luring and engaging a 10-year old girl in sex.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Badmus, has been arrested and charged for defilement which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The incident happened at Olusegun Close, Iyana Ipaja area of Alimosho, Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect had lured the victim severally into his apartment, engaged her in sex and warned her not to tell anyone about it and she kept it to herself.
However, when the girl could no longer hide it, she revealed it to her parents who in turn reported it to the Police in the area.
The suspect was then arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, the suspect was said to have admitted to have done so with the consent of the victim.
However, the Police found him culpable because of the age of the victim, who is still a minor and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charge read:
That you, Moses Badmus ‘m’, sometimes in June 2024, at Olusegun Close, Alimosho, lyana Ipaja, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile the victim, 10years old by forcefully having sexual intercourse with her severally without her consent and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 15th October, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
