Man, 20, Docked For Recruiting Self Into Nigerian Navy

A 20-year old man, Abah Lawrence, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for recruiting self into the Nigerian Navy by procuring its uniform before he was caught on the street with the full uniform. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Isuti Road, Egan area of Igando, Lagos where he initially claimed to be a Naval officer.

 

According to the Police, the suspect made Navy uniform and wore it for an undisclosed purpose. But while the Police at Igando while on routine monitoring in the area, they accosted him and he was unable to explain satisfactorily before he was taken to the Police station for interrogation.

 

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable as he only procured the uniform and was not recruited into the Navy.

He was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged impersonation.

 

The charge read:

“That you, Abah Lawrence, on the said day in November, 2014 at , Egan, Igando in the Lagos Magisterial District, did impersonate to be a serving member of the Nigerian Navy by wearing ther full camouflage uniform and thereby committed an offence pruntshatile under Section 77(b) of the Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

 

He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The presiding Magistrate,  Mr L.A Owolabi granted him bail in the sum of #200,000 with two sureties in like sum who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
