Police operatives from Isokoko Division have arrested a 22-year old man, Abdullahi Abass, for allegedly stealing a 12-month old baby boy in order to sell to his client in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Mosalasi Street, Agege area of Lagos, where Abass was said to have picked up the baby in front of the house.
However, before he could escape with the baby, a neighbour raised alarm which attracted other people around and the suspect, Abass, was apprehended and the baby was rescued. He was then handed him over to the Police for interrogation.
During interrogation, he reportedly admitted that he carried the baby and was taking him somewhere for an undisclosed mission probably to sell the baby to his client.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for stealing.
He pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Mr. Emmanuel Ajayi, asked Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A. B. Adelabu, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in the Correctional Centre pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
