A 22-year old man, Sulaiman Adegbite, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly targeted his neighbour’s 43-year old wife and forcefully engaged her in sex romp.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Raji Aba Street, Alimosho area of Lagos, where they reside.
The suspect, Adegbite, was said to have had the desire to sleep with the neighbour’s wife and the opportunity came on 12th October, 2022, in the afternoon when she was alone.
He reportedly targeted, overpowered her and forcefully had sex with her to his satisfaction before he left her, escaped and went into hiding.
The alleged rape was reported to the Police in the area and Adegbite was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Police Command for his conduct, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable of rape and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
When he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice since the alleged offence was punishable with life imprisonment or several years of imprisonment.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered his remand in custody at Correctional Centre, Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 29th November, 2022, for the report of the DPP to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
