A 22-year old undergraduate of University of Benin, Caleb Obasogie, has murdered his 55-year old mother, Josephine, for refusing to give him money by using a broken bottle to rip her stomach.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened around 8am at their residence located at 31A, Iyamu Street, off Textile Mill Road, Benin City, Edo State.

It was gathered that the suspect, Caleb, who is the last child, demanded for an undisclosed amount of money from his mother for something but she did not give it to him. He reportedly became angry, used a broken bottle, stabbed her severally ripping open her stomach and she bled to death.
When she was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, the doctors merely certified her dead and the corpse was deposited at mortuary for autopsy report.

The matter was reported to the Police; Caleb was later arrested and detained at the Police Station undergoing interrogation over the alleged murder which attracts life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.
Caleb was said to have gained admission into the University of Benin (UNIBEN) last year while his late mother was a beer parlour manager in Benin.
This was confirmed by the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, who said that the suspect has been arrested and will be charged to Court after the conclusion of investigation
