A 23-year old man, David Andrew, who reportedly went to the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Fruit Vine Assembly, Idimu in Lagos, has been caught in the act while looking for offering money and when he did not see any, he decided to steal fans.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the Church located at Ismaila Ajibola Street, Council Bus Stop, Idimu area of Lagos.
The suspect allegedly broke into the Church in the early hours of the morning at about 5am looking for the money but did not find any. He then decided to steal two OX standing fans inside the church.
However, while he was escaping, he was caught by security men in the area after an alarm was raised and he was handed over to the Police at Idimu Division.
During interrogation, he reportedly told the Police that initially, he went there to steal offering money but did not find any, miscalculated and stole the fans, which has landed him in trouble.
The Police found culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for burglary and stealing.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded guilty before Court for the alleged offence to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood.
He was remanded in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 6th June, 2022, for mention.
