Man, 23, Sent To Prison For Punching Pregnant Wife To Death During Public Brawl

A 23-year old man, Aderoju Timothy, has been arrested and charged in Oyo State for allegedly punching his 21-year old wife, Awesu Rokeebat, to death in the state.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 29th February, 2024, at Ajadi-Oke Compound, Ijemba Area of Iseyin, where they reside.
The cause of the fight between the man and his pregnant wife was not disclosed by the Police when he was brought before the Court for arraignment.
The deceased’s family confirmed before the Court that the man hit his wife with fist blows on her stomach through which she lost consciousness and she was rushed to the hospital before she later gave up.
The matter was reported to the Police and the man was arrested and consequently charged before the Court for the alleged murder, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The Presiding Magistrate, A.S Durowoju, did not take his plea when he was arraigned. The Court rather ordered his remand in custody till when the matter will be brought for hearing and the matter was adjourned.
The Prosecution said that the alleged offence was contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol 11, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
