Man, 24, Arraigned For Allegedly Stealing Gold Jewelries Worth N9.7m

A 24-year old man, Emmanuel Daniel, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing gold jewelries worth over N9.8m belonging to Adeleke Jamiu Alabi.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Alhaji Shittu Olawale Street, off CSL Road, Majidun Awori, Lagos State.
According to the Police, the suspect gained access, went where the complainant kept the items, carted them away and escaped. However, when the complainant discovered that the items were missing and it was linked to the suspect, the matter was reported to the the Commissioner of Police CP Cyber Security Squad, State Headquarters, Ikeja. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him for interrogation.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT 1: “That you, Emmanuel Daniel ‘m’ and others now at large on the 14th day of February, 2025 at about 10:45hrs at Alhaji Shittu Olawale Street, off CSL Road, Majidun Awori, Lagos State, in the Lagos magisterial district, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing, and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 411 of the criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Emmanuel Daniel ‘m’ and others now at large on the same date and time, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal one gold hand chain valued Three Million Eight Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N3,850,00000), Necklace and Pendant valued Five Million Eight Hundred and Eighty Nine Thousand Naira (N5,889,000.00) totaling Nine Million Seven Hundred Thirty Nine Thousand Naira (N9,739,000.00) properties of one Adeleke Jamiu Alabi ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
