Man, 24, Arraigned For Allegedly Stealing Offering Money Inside Catholic Church

A 24-Year old man, Moses Aletor, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing church offering at St. Benjamin Catholic Church.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened in October,2025 at the church located at 33 St. Benjamin Catholic Church, Olowora area of Lagos
According to the Police, the suspect pretended to be a worshipper and targeted the offering box. He allegedly stole a Tecno phone camo 16 valued  N180,000.00k, and Itel phone valued N110,000.00k, all totaling N385,000.00 property of the church.
However, when the parish priest discovered that the items were stolen,  he reported matter to the Police at Isheri Division . The suspect was later arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the missing items.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read::
“That you, Moses Aletor ‘M’ in the months of October 2025 at No 33 St. Benjamin Catholic Church, Olowora Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did steal offering money the sum of ninety five thousand naira, N95,000.00k Naira, tecno phone camo 16 valued the sum of one hundred and eighty thousand naira N180,000.00k, and Itel Phone valued N110,000.00k, all totaling N385,000.00 property of St. Benjamin Catholic Church, Olowora Road Lagos and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 311 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O.Tanimola, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
