Man, 24, Sent To Prison For Stealing  Sardines Inside Opeyemi Foods Warehouse

A 24-year old man, Gabriel Oghenekewe, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing Haano Supreme Sardines inside a warehouse.

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the management of the warehouse calculated that two cartons of Haano Supreme Sardines altogether valued at N110,000 was missing and held the suspect liable for the missing sardines.

 

The incident happened on 14th October, 2025, at Opeyemi Warehouse, along Oduduwa Street, off Governor’s Road, Ikotun, Lagos.

 

According to the Police, the suspect stole the item at the warehouse and was caught by the security men on duty. He was handed over to the Police at Ikotun Division for interrogation and prosecution over his alleged conduct under the Criminal Law of the State.

 

After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts imprisonment.

 

The charge read:

“That you, Gabriel Oghenekewe ‘m’, On 14th October, 2025, at about 0656hrs at Opeyemi Warehouse, along Oduduwa Street, off Governor’s Road, Ikotun, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal two cartons of Haano Supreme Sardines altogether valued One Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira (N110,000.00), property of Opeyemi Food Limited, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted him bail in the sum N100,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while address will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 17th November, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
