A 25-year old man, Ajisomo Olaoluwatomi, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly using cutlass to hack a man, Ogunbode Quadri Damilola, to death during a public fight.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 17th January, 2025, at PPL Okokomako Area Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect and others now at large had an encounter with the victim. In the process, they brought the cutlass and axe with which they inflicted injury on his body and escaped.
The victim bled to death and when he was eventually rushed to an undisclosed hospital, the doctor merely confirmed him dead and the corpse was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy reports.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area and the suspect was arrested. He was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for further investigation over the alleged murder.
After the investigation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNTII: “That you, Ajisomo Olaoluwatomi and others at large, on the 17th day of January 2025, at about 1900hrs, at PPL Okokomako Area Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit Murder and thereby, commilled an offence punishable under Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
COUNT II:”That you, Ajisomo Olaoluwatomi and others at large, on the 17 day of January 2025, at about 1900hrs, at PPL Okokomaiko Area Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill the deceased, OGUNBODE QUADRI DAMILOLA ‘M’ by attacking him with a cutlass and an axe and thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
However, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the Prosecutor, Supol Olatunde Kehinde, asking the Court to give a date and refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the seriousness of the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. F.M.Kayode-Alamu, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center pending the outcome of the DPP advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPPs advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
