A 25-year old man, Muktar Abdullahi, has landed in trouble after he allegedly recruited self into the Nigeria Air Force and operated as same before he was arrested by the Police intelligence operatives from the Lagos State Command.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect,  Abdullahi and others now at large between January to October, 2024, had been operating as Air Force Officers by wearing Military accountrements.
Unknown to him, his activities were being monitored by the Police intelligence operatives, who eventually arrested him at Ikeja GRA and detained him for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, he reportedly admitted that he was not recruited into the Nigeria Air Force rather he acquired the uniforms and started operating as an Air Force Officer.
The Police therefore, found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT I: “That you, Muktar Abdullahi and others now at large between January -October 2024 at Ikeja GRA in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire with others now at large to commit felony to wit impersonation and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Muktar Abdullahi and others now at large on the same date and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did impersonate the Nigeria Air Force by wearing Military accountrements presenting yourself as a member of Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to perpetrate crimes and harass the populace of GRA Ikeja and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 77 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
