Man, 25, Docked For Battering Biological Mother Over Money

A 25-year old man, Umeh Ndubisi Veracious, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly battering his biological mother, Edith Chinyere Umeh and inflicting injury on her eye over money. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Olojo Drive in Ojo town, Lagos, where they reside.

 

He was said to have demanded for money  from his mother and when she did not give him,  he attacked and seriously assaulted her in the process.

 

Apart from that, he threatened to kill her with a kitchen knife if she fails to give him an undisclosed amount of money for undisclosed purposes and had been a terror to other members of the family.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at Ojo Division. He was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct during which the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

Part of the charges read:

“That you Umeh Ndubuisi Veracious ‘M’ on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Mag Magisterial District did threaten the life of one Edith Chinyere Umeh ‘F’ who happens to be your biological mother, with a kitchen knife, that you are going to kil her if she refuses to give you money and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 232 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

“That you Umeh Ndubuisi Veracious ‘M’ on the same date, at about 1200hrs at Ilufe, in the aforementioned Magisterial District did use a big stone to inflict injury on the left eye of one Ugochukwu Umeh ‘M’, which caused him bodily harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

“That you Umeh Ndubuisi Veracious ‘M’ on the same date, Time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District did maliciously damage a Nigerian Passport with Serial Number B02737064 and a Burkina Faso travelling ticket valued N75,000.00 (Seventy Five Thousand Naira) only, property of one Ugochukwu Umeh ‘M’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 350 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Uche Simeon, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

 

The Presiding Magistrate, LKJ Layeni, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
