A 25-year old man, Jude John, has been arraigned before an Ogba Magistrate Court in Lagos over allegations of defiling a 17-year old girl after luring her into sex with marriage proposal.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened in December, 2025, at Kunlashu Orugboro, Epe, within the Lagos Magisterial District.
According to charge filed by the Commissioner of Police, John was alleged of having sexual intercourse with the minor, an offence contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The sworn affidavit in support of a remand order, deposed by W/Insp. Abosede Badru of the Gender Section, Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, stated that the case was transferred from Agbowa Police Station to the Gender Unit on 26th March, 2026.
The affidavit said the survivor’s mother reported that John, a neighbour who patronized her food business, allegedly lured the girl to his room under the pretense of marriage and had sexual intercourse with her on multiple occasions.
The affidavit stated that John was arrested and he made a statement to the Police.
It recommended that he be remanded in prison pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
