A 25-year old man, Adejo Wisdom Isaiah, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly used a company’s N2.7m to stake a game and failed to win the gamble.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Isaiah, has been arrested and charged before the Court for stealing.
The incident happened at Yellow Plate Restaurant located on Lagos Island, where Isaiah was employed as an attendant.
The suspect was alleged to have converted the company’s money to his own use by transferring to Spotbet account number 08133665377 with the intention that he will win and return the money to the company.
However, he lost and was unable to return the money, which was later discovered by the company and he was asked what happened. He initially denied before the matter was reported to the Tactical Team of the Commissioner of Police at Ikeja, Lagos.
He was subsequently arrested and detained for interrogation over his alleged conduct. And during interrogation, he reportedly admitted to have used the money to stake a game with the intention that he will win but it eventually failed.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Haruna  Magaji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Miss O.Y. Adefope, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
