A 25-year old man, Simon Benjamin, may spend the rest of his life in prison custody for allegedly engaging a 12-year old girl in sex romp in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Benjamin, has been arrested and charged for defilement.
The alleged defilement took place at Shaba Street, Ogba Road, Agege area of Lagos, where they reside.
The suspect allegedly lured the victim to his apartment, got her confused and then forcefully engaged her in the act. And having satisfied himself, he allowed her to go but warned her not to tell anyone about it.
However, the information leaked to victim’s parents and she was confronted. She then revealed what happened and how the suspect, Benjamin, lured and engaged her in the act without her consent.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area and the suspect was arrested. He was later transferred to the DSVA in Alausa, Ikeja, for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, he was found culpable and consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
However, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the case.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
