Police operatives at the Gender Section of the SCIID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, have been linked with the alleged change of name of a 25-year old man, Sulaimon Yusuf, who allegedly defiled his 13-year old sister and seriously injured her private part in the process.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that following the protest and submission of a group, known as Advocate for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network, ACVPN,  led by Comrade Ebenezer Omejalile, who said that the suspect’s name was changed to Segun Ayodele in Court deliberately to cover the criminal track record and family shame on the dastardly act.
According to Omejalile, the  group uncovered from the charge sheet that the perpetrator’s name was substituted with another name before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court.
He said the perpetrator’s real name is Sulaimon Yusuf and it was changed to Segun Ayodele by the Gender Unit at Panti. The case was heard by the Magistrate Court at Ebute-Metta and  may not have noticed the alteration.
The defendant, Sulaimon, was said to have sexually abused his sister sometime in January 2020, she bled profusely and he rushed her to hospital for treatment. He lied to the Chief Welfare Officer and the Medical Consultant that the victim was trying to scale the fence and in the process she got her vagina torn.
But unknown to the perpetrator, when he was asked to get some items the survivor had narrated what happened before the Chief Medical Consultant and the Chief Welfare Officer that it was him, Sulaimon, who actually defiled her.

“Let it be on record that the perpetrator’s details Sulaimon Yusuf is with the Ibeju Lekki General Hospital. When the Gender Unit at Panti was asked about the change of name, the Unit said it was what was given to them but they forgot that there were documents at Ibeju Lekki General Hospital that carried Sulaimon Yusuf” Omejale stated.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, could not be reached to know if it was human error or not.
However, the defendant was arraigned but his plea was not taken following the motion by the prosecutor, Chinalu Uwadione, to the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Adeola Adedayo, ordered him to be remanded in prison custody and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to DPP for advice.
The defendant may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable and recommends his trial for the alleged offence.
