A 26-year old man, Abdulahi Mohammed, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly smashing the head of a lady, Nancy Hassan, with a hammer and inflicting injury on her during a squabble.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Alaba Rago Market, Ojo area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect and the victim had a disagreement, which led to exchange of words and in the process, Mohammed brought out a hammer and smashed her head.
She was said to have bled profusely and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where she was treated while the matter was reported to the Police at Ojo Division. The Police arrested Mohammed and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to have done so because the victim provoked him over an undisclosed matter.
Thus, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Simeon Uche, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 2nd October, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
