A 27-year old man, Emmanuel Onyebuchi, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly abducting his neighbour’s 14-year old niece and defiling her in the process.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 6th day of January, 2026, at about 2300hours, at 23, Oribanwa Street, Phase II, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, where they reside.

According to the Police, the matter was transferred on 13th January, 2026, from Elemoro Division, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State by Inspector Vincentia Akalazu to the Gender Section of the State Command.

The complainant reported that his niece was sent on an errand by his wife on 6th January, 2026 and she did not return home that night and all efforts made to trace her proved abortive.

The complainant stated further that later on information got to him that the alleged perpetrator abducted the survivor and defiled her. Hence the matter was reported to the Police and the suspect was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section for further investigation.

After thorough interrogation at the Gender Section, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charge read:

“That you, Emmanuel Onyebuchi ‘m’, on the 6th day of January, 2026, at about 2300hours, at No. 23, Oribanwa Street, Phase II, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile the victim ‘f’ 14years by having unlawful sexual intercourse with her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

However, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O.Tanimola, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.

The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
