A 27-year old man, Habeeb Aminu, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly attempting to kill his rival, Toluwalase Juba, by using a cutlass to inflict injury on his head during a public fight.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ayemojuba Ikale Street, Kande in Ayobo area of Lagos, where they reside.

He was charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for attempted murder and being in possession of a cutlass, which he was unable to give satisfactory reasons for its use.

The Police alleged that Aminu and Juba had a disagreement over an undisclosed matter, which their neighbours had tried to resolve to no avail before they had the recent disagreement, which nearly cost Juba’s life.

During the quarrel, Aminu reportedly went for the cutlass and targeted Juba’s head but ended up inflicting injury on the center of his head. He was said to have bled profusely and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

The matter was then reported to the Police at Ayobo Division; he was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

During interrogation, Aminu reportedly told the Police that he narrowly missed his target to cut his head in two but he escaped.

The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.

The prosecutor,  Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

The matter was adjourned till 30th October, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
