A 27-year old man, John Hassan Amaechi, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly stabbed his rival, Peter Onyeagusi, with a knife during a public fight over an undisclosed matter and he died in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Ameachi, has been arrested and charged for murder under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The incident happened at Adeoye Street,  Coker, Aguda area of Lagos, where they reside.
Police sources stated that the duo had a disagreement over an undisclosed matter, which led to physical attacks and it was in the process that the suspect used a knife to stab the victim.
He was said to have bled profusely and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital. But before the doctor on duty would attend to him, he was already dead and the corpse was deposited at mortuary for autopsy reports.
The matter was reported to the Police at Orile Division. Ameachi was then arrested and transferred to the SCID Yaba, Lagos, for further investigation over the alleged murder.
After thoroughly interrogating the suspect at the SCID, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P. E. Nwaka, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
