Man, 28, Arraigned For Allegedly Stabbing Rival With Broken Bottle During Public Brawl

A 28-year old man, Awazie Henry, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stabbing his rival, Agboade Olayinka, with a broken bottle and inflicted injury on his ear during a public brawl. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 9th January, 2026, at No. 34, Shola Martins, Abule-Egba area of Lagos, over an undisclosed matter.

 

According to the Police, the suspect and the complainant had a disagreement over an undisclosed matter which led to exchange of words and degenerated to fighting between them.

 

During the fighting, the suspect reportedly broke a bottle and used it to inflict injury on the complainant’s ear.

He was said to have bled profusely and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment while the matter was reported to the Police at Oko Oba Division. The Police operatives moved into action, arrested and detained the suspect at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct against the complainant.

 

After thorough interrogation,  the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

COUNT 1- “That you, Awazie Henry ‘M’ on 9th of January, 2026 at about 1930hrs at No. 34, Shola Martins, Abule-Egba in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did commit felony to wit assault occassioning harm and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

COUNT II- “That you, Awazie Henry ‘M’ on the same date, time and place at the aforementioned Magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Agboade Olayinka ‘M’ by stabbing him with bottle by the side of his ear, which cause bodily harm and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 173 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
