Police operatives from the Gender Section of the Lagos State Command have arrested a 28-year old man, Jubril Zakari, for allegedly engaging his neighbour’s 2-year old girl in sex and injuring her in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Olarewaju Street, Onireke area of Lagos where they reside.
The suspect was said to have returned from work in the afternoon when other neighbours had gone to work, lured the little girl into his apartment and then forcefully penetrated her.
However, he was caught in the act and the alleged assault on the innocent girl was reported to the Police in the area and was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Unit for interrogation over his conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged Zakari before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
When he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea following a motion by the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Ajibade, ordered his remand in custody without an option of bail pending the outcome of the DPP report.
The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP while the matter was adjourned till 17th February, 2022, for report of the DPP to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
