A 28-year old man, Ezechi Onyendi, has landed in serious trouble in Lagos after he allegedly engaged a 15-year old girl in sex and he was arrested for defilement, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Londona Avenue in Iju, Ishaga, Lagos, where they reside.
According to the report, he was said to have lured the victim and got her confused before he had carnal knowledge of her.
However, the act leaked to the parents of the victim who reported the matter to the Police and Onyendi was arrested. He was taken to the Gender Section of the Police Command at Ikeja for interrogation.
During interrogation, he admitted that he slept with the girl but with her consent. The Police found him culpable after his submission because the victim was still a minor.
He was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence but the Court did not take his plea following a motion by the prosecutor, Supol Bisi Ogunleye, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, ordered Onyendi to be remanded in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town and also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 20th January, 2021, when the DPP’s report is expected to be ready in order to determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court for trial.
