Man, 29, Docked For Swindling 2 Ladies With Failed NYSC Registration Enrollment

A 29-year old man, Kayode Temitayo, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling two ladies, Ashiru Waliyat and Quadri Bisola, to the tune of the sum of N400,000 under the false pretence of enrolling them on the NYSC portal as graduates.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 25th July, 2023, at Leventis area of Onigbongbo, Lagos State, where Temidayo accosted the victims and obtained the money.
According to the Police, the suspect met the victims and promised to enroll them on NYSC Registration portal and procure discharge certificates if they will pay the amount.
The victims believed him, sourced for the money and gave to him with the intention that he will register them on the NYSC portal and get discharge certificates.
However, after he obtained the money from them, he bolted away and disconnected every communication he had with them.
The matter was reported to the Police. He was trailed and eventually arrested by the Police for interrogation over his alleged conduct. And during interrogation, he admitted to have obtained the money and had spent it as he had no such contact with NYSC registration and procurement of discharge certificates.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Uche Irabor, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. R.A. Alejo, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
