Man, 30, Arraigned For Allegedly Battering LASTMA Officer On Highway

The team leader of LASTMA, Shittu Taiwo, had a nasty experience while performing his lawful duty on the highway as he was seriously battered and injured by a motorist.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 2nd December, 2025, at 5-Stop in Agege area of Lagos, where the victim went to perform his duty with other officers.
The 30-year old man behind the attack,  Lanre Azeez, has been arrested and charged for assault over his alleged conduct.
According to the Police, the victim went to perform his lawful duty when he accosted the suspect over an undisclosed traffic offence and they had an altercation. In the process, the suspect attacked and brutalized him.
He was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment and the matter was reported to the Police at Abattoir Division. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested and detained the suspect at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, Lanre Azeez “M” on the 2nd of December, 2025 at about 0800hrs 5-Stop, Agege, Lagos, did assault LASTMA Team Leader, one Shittu Taiwo “M” and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 170 of the criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Lanre Azeez “M” on the same date, time and place in the Ikeja magisterial district, did unlawfully assault LASTMA Team Leader, one Shittu Taiwo “11” by beating him up while performing his lawful dutv and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 174 of the criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT III: “That you, Lanre Azeez “M” on the same date, time and place in the Ikeja magisterial district, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of public peace by dragging the Lagos LASTMA uniform and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168 of the criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
