A 30-year old man, Ogbe Olem Michael, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 12-year old daughter inside his farm using a knife.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Oke Agbo Phase 1, Gberigbe area of Ikorodu, Lagos, where they reside.
The suspect, Michael, has been charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for defilement, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The Police alleged that between 23rd February, 2023 to 23rd June,2023, the suspect constantly abused the victim in the farm by removing her skirt and pants, then inserting his finger into her private part for easy penetration before he eventually defiled her.
The man, Michael, was alleged to have threatened to kill the victim with a knife while warning her not to tell anyone including her mother.
However, the victim later disclosed what happened to her mother and explained that she kept it away from her because Michael had threatened to kill her with a knife if she disclosed it to anyone.
The matter was reported to the Police at Imota Police Division. He was arrested and later transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Command for interrogation.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him to Court for the alleged offence.
But the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned after the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date and refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered the defendant to be remanded in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of DPP’s advice to be made available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
