A 30-year-old man, Julius Iyobosa, been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly attempting to kill his neighbour, Charles Eze, by stabbing him with scissors and injuring him during a public fight.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 6th February, 2024, at Gowon Estate, Egbeda area of Lagos, where they reside.

The suspect, Iyobosa, was subsequently arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court, Lagos, for allegedly stabbing the victim on his stomach, neck, head and other parts of the body, which caused serious injury and he was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment while the matter was reported to the Police. He was arrested and charged for breach of public peace and attempted murder, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The prosecutor, Inspector Evelyn, told the Court that the offences allegedly committed contravened Sections 171, I72 173 and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Inspector Evelyn told the Court that a fight ensued between the complainant, Eze and the defendant, Iyobosa, over an undisclosed matter.

During the fight, the defendant  reportedly brought out the scissors and stabbed the complainant severally and injured him in the process.

The complainant was said to have bled profusely and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital by the neighbours, where he is being treated and the matter was reported to the Police at Gowon Estate Division before he was arrested and charged before the Court.

However, the defendant denied the allegations but his plea was not taken following a motion moved by the prosecutor asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. M. A. Adegbaye, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.

The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody to await the DPP’s report.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the victim is still lying critically ill at an undisclosed hospital over the injury he sustained during the attack.
