A 30-year old man, Francis Yao, has landed in trouble for allegedly inserting his finger into the private part of his neighbour’s 5-year old girl in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Yao, has been arrested and charged for sexual penetration and remanded in custody over the alleged dastardly act on the victim.
The incident happened on 24th February, 2024, at Kilimanjoro area of Ago Okota, Lagos, where the suspect resides with the victim’s family.
The Police alleged that the suspect indecently carried out the act when the victim’s mother left her with her other child and went to buy something. She did not not know that the suspect knew when she left the compound.
He reportedly went into the victim’s apartment, took her inside the kitchen and inserted his finger into her private part and later left having satisfied himself.
The matter got exposed when the mother came back, the victim informed her mother about what happened and the matter was reported to the Police at Ago Palace Way. The suspect was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command for interrogation over the alleged offence.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the case to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the matter.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Layinka, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
