A 30-year old man, Mojeed Oseni, may spend the rest of his life in prison custody for allegedly engaging his neighbour’s 17-year old girl in sex romp in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Oseni, has been arrested and charged for defilement, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The incident happened at Gbada Salami Street, off Orisunbare Road, Shasha area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect allegedly lured the girl into his apartment and engaged her in sex romp having gotten her confused through strong romance.
However, trouble started after the girl revealed what happened to her parents and alleged that Oseni did it without her consent because he lured her into the act.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area and Oseni was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable for engaging a minor in the act based on the Criminal Laws of the State and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the alleged offence.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 22nd May, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
