Man, 31, Docked For Stealing N4.5m Meat At Fafem Haulage Company

A 31-year old man, Babatunde Jamiu, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing bags of meat and bone poultry meals worth N4.5m belonging to Fafem Haulage Nigeria Limited. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the Abule Egba area of Lagos.

 

According to the Police, the suspect conspired with others now at large and stole the items on 4th October, 2024 and escaped. When the company discovered what happened, they reported to the Police at Area G Command, Ogba, Lagos.

 

The Police moved into action, arrested and detained  the suspect at the Command for interrogation. He was found culpable after interrogation and charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

The charges read:

COUNT I: “That you, Babatunde Jamiu ‘m’ and others now at large, n the 4th of October, 2024 at about 0900hrs somewhere at Abule-Egba Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: Stealing and thereby committed offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

COUNT II:”That you, Babatunde Jamiu ‘m’ and others now at large the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial, did steal 5.850kg Bags of Meat and Bone Poultry Meals valued N4,525,000 properties of Fafem Haulage Nig. Ltd and thereby mmitted an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

He pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Ex. Kubenije, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 18th December,2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
