A 32-year-old man, Samuel Nsughter, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court on Friday over allegations of impersonating as a Nigerian Army officer and unlawful possession of military uniform.
According to the charge sheet filed by the Commissioner of Police, the offences were allegedly committed on 20th March, 2026, at Badore area of Lagos, within the Lagos Magisterial District.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant and others now at large conspired to commit felony by impersonating as members of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The charge stated that the defendant allegedly wore a Nigerian Army woodland camouflage uniform to present himself as a serving military officer.
The prosecution further alleged that the defendant was found in unlawful possession of one Nigerian Army camouflage uniform at the time of arrest.
The offences are said to be contrary to Section 411, Section 77(a)(b), and Section 79(1)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
Section 411 deals with conspiracy to commit felony. Section 77 covers impersonation of public officers, while Section 79 prohibits unlawful possession of military accoutrements.
The charge was filed and coordinated by SP Banti Adamu, Officer-in-Charge, Command Tactical Squad 1, State Headquarters, Ikeja.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to provide evidence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood.
The case was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
Legal experts say impersonation of security personnel and unlawful possession of military uniforms are prosecuted under Lagos Criminal Law to curb insecurity and protect public trust. Parties are presumed innocent until the court delivers judgment.
