A 32-year old man, Segun John, has been arrested and charged for allegedly forcefully engaging his wife’s two sisters, aged 11 and 12, who are pupils of Archbishop Taylor Memorial Primary School, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened sometime in December 2024, at about 0230hours, at Oniru Anojide Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, where the victims reside with the suspect, who was married to their elder sister.
According to the Police, on the 13/3/2025, at about 1240hours, a case of sexual assault was transferred from Maroko to the Gender Unit by one Odia Godwin Monday ‘m’, a social worker with the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Block 18, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja Lagos, on behalf of the victims.
In the affidavit, the Police alleged that the suspect, Segun John, based on information on 10/03/2025 through a phone call from Eti-Osa Local Government Educational Council, Mrs. Padenu Abosede Benedict, that the pupils of Archbishop Taylor Memorial Primary School, Victoria Island were sexually assaulted by one Segun John ‘m’, who is their elder sister’s husband, she stated further that the incident happened sometime in the year 2024.
The Police at Maroko Division moved into action, arrested the suspect and transferred him to the Gender Section of the State Police Command for interrogation over the alleged offence.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Segun John ‘m’, sometime in the month of December 2024, at about 0230hours, at Oniru Anojide Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile the victims of the same address by having forceful canal knowledge of them and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O.Tanimola, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the report of the DPP’s advice will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
