Police operatives from Gender Section of the Lagos State Command have arrested a 32-year old man, Ede Joseph, who allegedly sexually engaged his neighbour’s 6-year old girl in sex.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Fagbola Street, Orile area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to Police, the suspect, Joseph, lured the girl into his apartment, removed her pants and engaged her in sex before he was caught in the act and the girl revealed what happened.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area and Joseph was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation.
At the Gender Section, he reportedly admitted to have done so but with the consent of the girl.
The Police therefore, found him culpable and subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
When he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea rather ordered his remand in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
This followed a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice because the victim is still a minor.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, ordered his remand and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 4th July, 2022, for report of the DPP to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
