Man, 33, Arraigned For Allegedly Assaulting Police Officer While On Duty

A 33-year old man, Bakare Muhammad, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting a Police Inspector, Ayenimelo Oluwole, attached to Command Tactical Team while performing lawful duty. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 18th day of December, 2025, at about at Akowonjo Roundabout, Egbeda Lagos.

 

The complainant, Inspector Oluwole, suffered his fate when he accosted the suspect over an undisclosed offence. They had altercation which led the suspect to assault hiim and poured some liquid substance suspected to be alcohol on his body.

 

However, the suspect was later subdued and arrested for his alleged conduct against the complainant.

He was found culpable and subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

The charges read:

“That you, Oluwole Muhammed ‘M’ and others now at large on the 18th day of December, 2025, at about 2200hrs at Akowonjo Roundabout, Egbeda Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: serious assault, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

COUNT II: “That you, Bakare Muhammed ‘m’ on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Inspr. Ayenimelo Oluwole ‘m’ attached to Command Tactical Team Sparrow Lagos by pouring on him liquid substance suspected to be alcohol on his body while in uniform performing his duty and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 174(b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

COUNT III: “That you, Bakare Muhammed ‘m’ on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district, did obstruct and resist Police arrest and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 117 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

He pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
