Man, 33, Arraigned Over Machete Attack On Neighbour

Chaos erupted on Adeola Almoruf Street, Oja Ale, Ejigbo, Lagos, following machete attack in the early hours of the morning by a 33-year old man, Olaniyi Yusuf, who inflicted serious injury on his neighbour, Njoku Wisdom.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the victim was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he is receiving treatment over the injury inflicted on him by Yusuf on 10th May, 2026.
Police operatives from Ejigbo Division have arrested the suspect, Yusuf and charged him before the Court for the alleged assault under the Criminal Law of the State.
According to the Police, the suspect woke up at about 5.00 AM armed with the machete, targeted the victim and inflicted injury on his hand and cheek before he managed to escape and was rushed to the hospital.
The defendant was arrested and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrat Court for allegedly constituting public nuisance and assault under the Criminal Law of the State.
The charges read:
“That you Olaniyi Yusuf ‘m’, on the 10th day of April 2026 at about 0500hrs. at Adameola Almoruf Street, Oja Ale, Ejigbo, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by causing nuisances in a public place and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168 (d) of the Criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
Count II:”That you, Olaniyi Yusuf ‘m’, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Njoku Wisdom ‘m’ by using a machete on his hand and on his cheek, which caused him bodily harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 173 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence that brought him before the Court.
The Presiding Magistrate, F.R.Ogunkoyede, granted him bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 9th June,2026 and the defendant was remanded in cucorrectional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
