A 33-year old man, Legal Dennis, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly stealing a woman’s N25m jewelries and selling them at give away prices to a buyer before he was caught.
P.M.EXPRESS reports the incident happened at Moriola Opeyemi Street, Fabile Estate, Isheri Oshun area of Lagos, where the victim, Mrs. Oluwatosin Opeyemi, resides.
The suspect, Dennis and the buyer, Hashimu Kabiru, 35, have been arrested and charged for conspiracy and stealing.
According to the Police, Dennis broke into the complainant’s bedroom, stole the items and then sold it to Kabiru for an undisclosed amount of money lower than the actual cost of the items.
The alleged theft was reported to the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team. The operatives who moved into action, arrested Dennis and detained him for interrogation over the alleged theft.
During interrogation, he mentioned one Kabiru, who bought the items from him and he was arrested as well and detained for interrogation. While being interrogated, Kabiru admitted to have bought the items but did not know they were stolen items.
The Police found them culpable and consequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
They pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted them bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
