Man, 33, Docked For Swindling Married Woman Of N5.9m Under False Pretence

A 33-year old man, Temidayo Amosu, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a married woman, Mrs. Oyero Abosede, to the tune of N5.9m under false pretence.

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 11th December, 2024, at Pipeline in Oke-Odo area of Lagos, where they reside.

 

According to the Police, the suspect obtained 63 bags of rice worth the said amount under the false pretence of selling them and paying her the money and the complainant believed him.

 

However, after selling the items, he bolted away with the money and disconnected every communication he had with the complainant so that he will not be traced.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at SCID, Yaba. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested and detained him at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

While being interrogated, the defendant admitted to have collected the bags of rice, sold them and spent the money as such he had no money to refund to the complainant.

 

The Police found him culpable and charged him before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged fraud and stealing under the Criminal law of the State which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read :

“That you, TEMIDAYO AMOSU ‘M’ on the 11th day of December, 2024 at No 54 Pipeline, Oke-Odo, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did obtain 63 Bags of Rice valued the sum of Five Million, Nine Hundred and seventy Thousand Naira (N5,970,000.00) from one Mrs Oyero Abosede ‘Y’ by false pretence to pay knowing same to be false and converted same to your personal use and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 314 (3) Cap 17 Vol.2 of the Diminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

COUNT II: “That you, TEMIDAYO AMOSU ‘M’ on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal 63 bags of rice valued the sum of Five Million, Nine Hundred and seventy Thousand Naira (N5,970,000.00) being proceed of sales, property of one Mrs. Oyero Abosede ‘ and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287 Cap 17 Vol.2 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
