Man, 34, Butchers Wife With Cutlass Over Pregnancy

A mother of two kids, Mrs. Ruth Ebenezer, got what she did not bargain for in Lagos State after she informed her husband, Cyprian Ebenezer, that she was pregnant and he should be expecting their third child. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that her husband, Cyprian, on hear the news of the pregnancy, immediately got angry, carried machete and inflicted serious injuries on her body before the neighbours rescued and rushed her to the hospital.

The incident happened on 16th April, 2022, by 11pm, when they had gone to bed at Onajole Street, Pleasure Bus Stop, Oke- Odo area of Lagos, where they reside with their children.

The man reportedly inflicted injuries with the machete after giving her fist blows on her eyes including her right hand, right arm,  left leg,  right thigh, back and other places and she was said to have bled profusely before she was rushed to the hospital. 

The woman, Mrs. Ruth, is now critically lying in the hospital and the matter was reported to the Police at Oke-Odo Division. The suspect, Cyprian was arrested and detained for interrogation. 

During interrogation, he told the Police that he had warned his wife, Ruth, not to get pregnant again because of the condition he was facing having been unable to pay his house rent, pay his children’s school fee or feed the family properly.
He even told the Police that he had not paid her bride price and all the pressure was on him; that she added to it all by informing him that she was pregnant. 
However, after interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for causing the wife grievous harm.

When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty. 

The prosecutor,  DSP Kehinde Ajayi, informed the Court that the victim was still critically lying in the hospital because of the injuries she sustained during the attack. 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum. 

He was remanded at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 31st May, 2022, for mention.
