A 34-year old man, Kelechi Agbafor, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing N35.2m belonging to a company, Outori Limited.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Oduduwa Way, GRA Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect and others now at large conspired and stole 82 cartons of Chesterfield mint burst value at N35,254,000.00 belonging to the company.
However, the alleged theft got exposed and the matter was reported to the Police at Ikeja Division. The suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
County I: “That you, Kelechi Agbafor ‘m’ and others now at large, on the 2nd day of October, 2024, at about 0900hrs at Oduduwa Way GRA Ikeja Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire with others now at large to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you Kelechi Agbafor ‘m’ and others now at large, on the same date, and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal 82 cartons of Chesterfield mint burst valued N35,254,000.00 property of Outori Limited and thereby committed an offence Contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 (7) of Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Kelechi Agbafor ‘m’ and others now at large, on the same date, and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did sell and convert 82 cartons of Chesterfield mint burst valued N35,254,000.00 belonging to Outori Limited and thereby committed an offence Contrary to Section 286 and punishable under Section 287 of Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Ex. Kubenije, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
