A 34-year old man, Akinbola Akinbowa has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing gold pendants valued at N8m belonging to Mrs. Oluyemisi Olukoya at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the arrival hall of the  Airport after the victim, Mrs. Olukoya, returned from a trip abroad.

While she was at the arrival hall,  the suspect accosted her, stole the items and tried to escape before he was eventually apprehended by the security agencies and handed over to the Police.

According to the Police, the victim returned from a trip abroad with the items in question and the suspect stole them before he was caught.

When the matter was reported to the Police, he was subsequently arrested and detained at the Airport Police Division for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

The charge read: “That you, Akinbola Akinbowa ‘m’, on the 30th day of June, 2024, at about 0800hrs, at the arrival hall of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did steal Gold Pendant valued eight million Naira (#8,000,000) only, property of Mrs Oluyemisi Olukoya and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 (1) (a) (b) and punishable under section 287 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
