Man, 34, Docked In Lagos For Allegedly Knocking Off Rival’s Teeth During Public Brawl

A 34 year old man, Jimoh Yusuf, was on Monday arraigned and docked before a Magistrate Court in Ikeja over allegations of grievous harm, breach of peace and assault following a public brawl in Lagos.
According to the charge sheet filed by the Commissioner of Police, the incident allegedly occurred on 24th May, 2026, at about 4:00pm at No 11, Ishaga Road, Omi-ata, Meiran, within the Ikeja Magisterial District.
The defendant was arraigned on a 3 count charge before the court. Court records showed the matter was marked as Charge No MB 2026.
In Count 1, the prosecution alleged that Jimoh Yusuf unlawfully inflicted grievous harm on one Akintoye Faruk during the fight. The charge stated that the defendant allegedly gave a hard blow to the mouth of the complainant and allegedly removed his front teeth.
The charge further alleged that the defendant also used a shovel to cut the right hand of Akintoye Faruk during the altercation at the same location.
The prosecution stated that the alleged act is contrary to and punishable under Section 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
In Count 2, the defendant was accused of conducting himself in a disorderly manner in a public place in a way likely to cause breach of peace. The offence is said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 166(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
Count 3 alleged that on the same date, time and place, Jimoh Yusuf beat and injured one Famous Ogunshola in the mouth. The prosecution said the act is punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The charge sheet listed Supol Alonge Bridget as the Investigating Police Officer attached to the case with ID 443.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, SP Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the allegations.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted the defendant bail with two sureties who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
Legal experts say grievous harm, assault and breach of peace are criminal offences under Lagos State law. Every person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
