Man, 34, Faces Murder Charge For Pushing Neighbour To Death During Public Brawl

A 34-year old man, Ngozi Promise, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly pushing his 33-year old neighbour, Samson Akande, he fell, hit his head on a nail and died during a public brawl.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Promise, has been arrested for alleged murder.
The incident happened at Kadiri Street, Ifako-Ijayi area of Agege, Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect, Promise, had a disagreement with the deceased, which led to hot exchange of words and in the process, the suspect pushed Akande, he fell down and hit his head on a nail, which pierced through his brain and caused his death.
He was said to have bled profusely, became unconscious and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where the doctor on duty merely confirmed him dead.
The corpse was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy reports, while the matter was reported to the Police in the area. Promise was arrested and detained for interrogation over the death. He was later transferred to the SCID, Yaba, Lagos, for further investigation. After thorough interrogation, he was found culpable despite the fact he claimed that he never intended to kill him.
He was subsequently charged before the Yaba Magistrates Court for murder under Section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if he is found guilty.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Rita Momah, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Adeola Olatubosun, ordered his remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, while she directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
