A 35-year old man, Joseph Ojodu, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly engaging his boss’ 7-year old daughter in sexual act.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Faruk Abdulazeez Street, Ire Akari Estate area of Isolo, Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect, Joseph, was employed by the victim’s father as a worker, which the Police did not specify if he was a domestic staff or company worker.
But few days after his employment, he started tempering with the victim’s private part by inserting his fingers inside it in order to open it up for easy penetration and asked the victim not to tell anyone what he was doing.
However, he was eventually caught after he decided to penetrate private part and in the process injured the victim, who informed her mother about what happened when the parents were not around.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area and he was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command for interrogation over his conduct.
During interrogation, the victim revealed that he had been tempering with her private part for sometime before he penetrated her and injured her in the process.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if he is found guilty.
The Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Layinka, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was then adjourned for the DPP’s report to be available, advice which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction because it was a capital offence under the Laws of the State.
