Man, 35, Docked For Breaking Fence Of Nigerian Customs To Steal Items Inside Warehouse

A 35-year old man, Bashiru Abubakar, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly breaking the fence of the Federal Operation Zone A Nigeria Customs Service Warehouse with a hammer to steal items inside. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 17th July, 2025, at the Ikeja Warehouse of the Federal Operation Zone A Nigeria Customs Service.

 

According to the Police, the suspect went to the fence at night with a hammer and broke part of the fence, from where he climbed, entered into the warehouse and stole Toyota Corolla bumper worth N35,000.

 

When he tried to escape, he was caught by security guards on duty and handed over to the Police at Ikeja Division for interrogation and prosecution over his alleged conduct.

 

After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

COUNT I: “That you, Bashiru Abubakar ‘m’ on the 17th day of July, 2025 at about 1530hrs, at Federal Operation Zone A Nigeria Customs Service Warehouse Ikeja Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did unlawfully damage a fence property of Nigeria Customs, Ikeja by using a hammer to break through the fence and enter the compound and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 309 (20) of Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.”

 

COUNT II: “That you Bashiru Abubakar, ‘m’ on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal Toyota Corolla bumper value N35,000.00 (thirty five thousand Naira only) property of Federal Operation Zone A Nigeria Customs Service Warehouse and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Phillip Ademigbuji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with surety, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
