Police operatives have arrested a 35-year old man, Oluwafemi Asekeji who allegedly desecrated a place of worship by defiling an 11-year old girl inside a Mosque in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ilupeju Street, Meiran area of Lagos, where the Mosque is located.
The Police alleged that Asekeji lured the victim into the Mosque in the evening and engaged her in sex. While he was in the act, he was caught and handed over to the Police at Meiran Division for interrogation over the dastardly act.
He was said to have initially denied before the victim narrated everything before him and the Police. The matter was eventually transferred to the Gender Section of the Police Command for further interrogation.
After investigation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty.
However, the Court did not take his plea after the Prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
Hence, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.I. Adelaja, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.
The case was adjourned pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court over jurisdiction.
